10. Eric Sono – Jomo Sono and Jomo’s sons [Bamuza and Matsilele]

When we talk about fathers and sons who made it as soccer players in South African football, the first names that come to our minds are Sono’s. It is because Eric Sono and his son, Jomo, were great ambassadors of the game albeit the testing apartheid era during their times. Both are respected legends of Orlando Pirates. Jomo went on to be a highly successful coach and coached Bafana Bafana at the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan whilst he also won a few cups domestically with his own club Jomo Cosmos where two of his sons Bamuza and Matsilele are also playing.

9. Les and Bradley Grobler

Like his father Bradley is a serial goal scorer who is currently playing for SuperSport United. Les was a prolific striker for Moroka Swallows in his days and Bradley has already been to Europe where he played in Turkey for Goztepe. He has also turned out for Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town and is a part of the current Bafana Bafana squad.

8. Gordon and Grant Igesund

Having undergone a highly successful career as a footballer, Gordon Igesund pursued coaching and it also went well for him there. Becoming the only South African coach to have won five league titles with five different teams. His son Grant, is a retired striker who turned out for Ajax Cape Town, Manning Rangers and Maritzburg United before quitting the game.
